Description

Literally. ;) Multiple views of the fantastical little critters.

Made the night before my final as a last-minute add-on. Supposed to accompany the Tree-snake, it could only be made just before it was due. Reason being is that the butterfly's wings are flower petals, and the bush was just blooming then. There was no time to press them, so I had to resort to fresh petals (which were drooping pretty badly by the end, thus the supports underneath). Needless to say, these aren't the original wings, which were brilliant hot pink. These are pressed petals which yellowed quite pleasingly. Or one of a ton that did... (So many just turned a yucky brown.)

Since I was young I always thought maple tree seedpods, the ones that twirl down like little helicoptors, looked like dragonfly wings. So I wanted to make a dragonfly for the treesnake as a bonus.

But then I saw the blossoming bush, and decided that the little dragonfly would wait until the last night, when I made a butterfly.

That night, my sister, suggested I make a praying mantis. I kinda mumbled and said it would be hard and that I had no time... But after the butterfly I wanted to make something else. So I kept the gun hot and went outside, grabbed a few things and made a mantis. Too bad the glue is so obvious on him.

Media: Hot glue, pine needles, bark, twigs, flower petals, pinecone scales, gum tree gumball stems, and maple tree seed pods.
